சங்ககராவும் தமிழர்களும்

இலங்கை கிரிக்கெட் வீரரான சங்ககராவின் குடும்பம், தமிழர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக இருந்தது, இதைப் பற்றி சர்வதேச மாநாடு ஒன்றில் சங்ககரா பேசியிருக்கிறார் என்று ஃபேஸ்புக் பதிவு ஒன்றில் பார்த்தேன்.

சங்ககரா, 2011ல் நடந்த MCC நிகழ்ச்சியில் பேசியதன் சுருக்கம்:

I do not remember this momentous occasion as a child. Maybe because I was only five years old, but also because it wasn't a topic that dominated conversation: the early 1980's was dominated by the escalation of militancy in the north into a full scale civil war that was to mar the next 30 years.

The terrible race riots of 1983 and a bloody communist insurgency amongst the youth was to darken my memories of my childhood and the lives of all Sri Lankans. I recollect now the race riots of 1983 now with horror, but for the simple imagination of a child not yet six it was a time of extended play and fun. I do not say this lightly as about 35 of our closest friends, all Tamils, took shelter in our home. They needed sanctuary from vicious politically-motivated goon squads and my father, like many other brave Sri Lankans from different ethnic backgrounds, opened his houses at great personal risk.

For me, though, it was a time where I had all my friends to play with all day long. The schools were closed and we'd play sport for hour after hour in the backyard - cricket, football, rounders…it was a child's dream come true. I remember getting annoyed when a game would be rudely interrupted by my parents and we'd all be ushered inside, hidden upstairs with our friends and ordered to be silent as the goon squads started searching homes in our neighbourhood.

I did not realise the terrible consequences of my friends being discovered and my father reminded me the other day of how one day during that period I turned to him and in all innocence said: "Is this going to happen every year as it is so much fun having all my friends live with us.

Their spirit is the true spirit of cricket. With me are all my people. I am Tamil, Sinhalese, Muslim and Burgher. I am a Buddhist, a Hindu, a follower of Islam and Christianity. I am today, and always, proudly Sri Lankan.

டி. ராஜா

ஆங்கில செய்தி சேனல்களில் இலங்கையின் போர்க் குற்றத்தை முன்வைத்து ஆணித்தரமாகப் பேசுவதில் டி.ராஜா (CPI) முக்கியமானவராக இருக்கிறார். பொதுவாக ஆங்கில சேனல்களில் தமிழகம் சார்பாகப் பேசுபவர்கள், தமிழ்நாட்டு நலனுக்கு எதிராகவும் பேசத் தெரியாமல் உளறுபவர்களாகவும்தான் இருக்கிறார்கள். இவர்களில் டி.ராஜா, சொல்ல வந்த கருத்தை மிக வலிமையாகவும் ஆங்கில செய்தியாளர்கள் அதைப் புரிந்துகொள்ளக்கூடிய விதமாகவும் பேசுகிறார். இவரைப் போன்றவர்கள் ஆங்கில சேனல்களில் பேசினால் மட்டுமே தமிழ்நாட்டின் குரல் இந்தியா முழுக்க ஒலிக்கும்.

ஆணா, பெண்ணா?

2011ல் எழுதியது:

10ம் வகுப்புத் தேர்வில் பிரியங்காவும் விக்னேஷ்குமாரும் தமிழில் 100/100 எடுத்தார்கள். தமிழகக் கல்வி வரலாற்றில் இது ஓர் அரிய சாதனை. ஆனால், விகடன், குமுதம் ஆகிய இரு பத்திரிகைகளிலும் பிரியங்காவுக்குத்தான் அதிமுக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. பெரிய புகைப்படத்துடன் பிரியங்காவின் நீளமான பேட்டி. கூடவே, பிரியங்காவின் தமிழாசிரியர் ஜீவாவின்(இவரும் பெண்) பேட்டியும் (புகைப்படத்துடன்).

ஆனால், இரு பத்திரிகைகளிலும் விக்னேஷ்குமாரின் பேட்டி சிறிய அளவில் பாக்ஸ் மேட்டராக மட்டுமே வெளிவந்துள்ளது (போட்டோ, பாஸ்போர்ட் சைஸ்). இரு பத்திரிகைகளும் இவருடைய தமிழாசிரியரை கண்டுகொள்ளவில்லை (ஒருவேளை அவரும் ஆணோ?).

+2 தேர்வில் ஒரே பள்ளியில் படித்த கோகுல கிருஷ்ணன், மாதேஸ்வரன், தினகரன் மற்றும் நவீன்சந்தர் ஆகிய நான்கு பேரும் தமிழில் ஸ்டேட் ஃபர்ஸ்ட் வந்தார்கள். இவர்களையும் எந்த முன்னணிப் பத்திரிகையும் ஏறெடுத்துக்கூடப் பார்க்கவில்லை. சினிமா செய்திகளில் கடைபிடிக்கும் வழக்கத்தை சாதனையாளர்கள் குறித்த செய்திகளிலும் தொடர்வது விந்தையாக இருக்கிறது.
